Traditionally, in England, weddings take place in a building that has been sanctioned for marriages, such as a church, hotel or register office but there are rules to follow. A civil marriage can contain no religious words or music or references to spiritual beliefs. A church wedding obviously will have elements which relate to that religion. Our ceremonies can contain any words you like, apart from the legal declarations and contracting words which have to be said before a registrar. In practice this usually means a short trip to a register office to complete the legal paperwork. Your Promises ceremony can then take place in your chosen location. You may choose any wedding ideas including music and readings that express your hopes and dreams for your wedding day and married life together. Ancient rites and ceremonies, such as hand-fasting can also be included.
